Spooky Season Begins
It’s time to roll out the pumpkins, drop through the veil and get ready for the spookiest season. October is my favorite month for many reasons. The slow change to fall and reprieve from the heat. It’s the season of apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and being thankful for living somewhere with seasons. Both my mom and I celebrate a little differently. While I’m a fan of the occasional scary movie, she prefers sticking with the more jolly aspects of the season. This year, our plan is to paint our pumpkins rather than carve them; we’ll keep you posted on how those turn out!
With every season Dot & Daisy has some pretty grandiose ideas - “how can we create an arch out of foam pumpkins” or “what if we create a custom halloween sleepover tent theme?” Jen will say. To which I normally say, “we’ll have to pick one of those things and save the other for the next year.” Much like choosing a halloween costume, it’s about choosing which project you want to throw yourself into and which can wait until the following year.

Jo’s Move to Minneapolis
Hey Y’all it’s Jo! As you may have heard, I moved a few weeks ago and am getting acclimated to my new space. Even though I'm still very close to the central Dot & Daisy hub, it’s certainly a season of change over here. I’ll attach a few pictures from friends who have made my new space feel like home.
The first is a clay gnome that sits on my desk (notice the dots? Dot & Daisy? See what they did there). The second is a hand-sewn bear that sits on my desk to remind me at all times to be grateful for where I am.
Working full-time while running a small business is hard. But, I am reminded everyday of the kindness of people and the reason Jen and I started this business in the first place. Creativity, in all its forms, brings us joy. Whether it’s us doing the creating, receiving creations from others, being inspired by those around us, or inspiring others to be creative in some way. The best part of being in a new space is feeling inspired to bring it to life. Adding a little touch of color (or a lot of color, if you’re me) throughout the space to spark creativity has brought me so much joy within the past few weeks.
As the season begins to change, I encourage everyone to make something that brings you joy. I’m so thankful for this next chapter.
Perfection: A Myth
Hey Y’all! It’s Jo!
Comin’ at cha with some balloon knowledge (just kidding, not really)! Our build process continues to change as we learn more, and when people ask us to do things we’ve never done before. The most exciting projects are those when we get to spend time figuring out how to create something from scratch. And by “scratch” I of course mean watching endless youtube videos, and trying out many things.
I’m not going to say we’ve figured it out, because we haven’t. When I was teaching, my philosophy was always “We learn together, and the moment we decide we know the most about something is the moment we really fail.” With every new project there is a different/better way of doing something, but the only way to figure out the “best” way is to fail.
Here’s to all the projects that forced us to grow and learn!

Sleepover Tents: The Great Expansion
Hey Y’all! Jo again. Our sleepover tents are a culmination of my love of camping, and my mom’s (Jen) love of staying indoors. Just kidding, there are other things that led us to creating this sleepover experience. We had a friend ask us back in September of 2021 to create a unique birthday experience for her daughter. She wanted something that would create a lasting memory, and encourage them to connect with one another.
Mom came to me with the idea to create an indoor camping experience, and I was all for it! As an avid camper I was excited to share the experience with people, but with the caveat that it would happen inside.
Once we did one theme (being extra as we are) we had the grand idea of introducing ten themes. Is ten too many? Maybe. But can you blame us? We’re excited! The themes we have are: Boho Chic, Sweet Treats, Llama, Sparkle and Shine, Snow Queens, Winter Wonderland, MineCraft, Midwest, Jungle Camp, and Superhero.
We are always evolving these themes by adding new things we find, and sometimes even add a new theme based on trends we see. If you think we have a pinterest page with “New tent theme ideas'' you're correct!

The Journey: How it started. How it’s going.
Hey Y’all! Jo here. I wanted to give you a little sneak peek into how and why we decided to get into the balloon business. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure how it happened either. Between hard work, long nights, lots of swearing, and endless laughs we’ve managed to build something authentically expressive of us.
We have the discussion all the time of when we “started” our business. When I think about it now, we’ve always wanted to have something that’s ours. Something tangible that inspires joy in people. I spent the majority of my time throughout childhood in theatre, so I always had that creative bug.
Many would say I get that from my mom and I’m inclined to agree. If I wasn’t in a show we were making scrapbooks, taking art classes, attempting to sew, or heading to flea markets to find hundreds of glass jars for a “mysterious project.”
When I was having trouble finding a creative outlet in 2020 my mom suggested making a balloon garland for my birthday together, and it brought so much joy to what otherwise would be a dull endeavor. We started making them for any occasion, for friends, family, and friends of friends. Everything snowballed from there.
When I say “snowballed” I mean it grew at a pace we were not expecting. Soon the jobs got bigger, and the schedule got tighter. We both work full-time day jobs, so the thing we always go back to is - We have the chance to do something that brings joy to people, that isn’t for “likes” or “showmanship”. We do it because people deserve the chance to celebrate moments, to make memories, and to spend time with people they care about.
That is why we started, and why we continue to do it.
